New HTPC Case Mod - Part 1

September 6th, 2007 by erb

I’ve started a new case mod over the past couple weeks. Over Labor Day weekend, the first trial boot / check-out was mostly successful — the only hiccup was a bit of trouble with the IDE optical drive, but I just hooked up a USB / IDE PATA enclosure / CDROM hack job and kept on moving.

A dedicated page is available at SCSI HTPC Epia-M100000 Mod.
(While you’re at it, check out my other work-in-progress mod, AppleII Floppy Disk Epia-N Mod.)

SCSI HTPC mod The low down:

  • An old full-height, single disk SCSI enclosure
  • VIA EPIA M10000 motherboard, 1GHz VIA C3
  • 2 picoPSU DC-DC power supplies, 12V input
  • IcyDock MB453SPF-B
  • 500GB SATA drives — TBD
  • Promise TX4310 SATA II PCI 32bit 4 Port RAID Controller
  • Linksys WMP54 Wirelss-G PCI adapter
  • Slimline optical drive
  • 4GB Flash IDE drive
  • VFD display with IR remote
  • Lots of dremeling
