Margaret Cho

Went to see Margaret Cho, at the Paramount. Birthday gift from Malaika.
Eh… We saw her a couple years ago, I think at the Moore, and laughed our asses off: One of the best comedy shows we’ve seen, and generally what I had expected for Margaret Cho (at the time, anyway). But this time, there was a very definite shift from a well rounded comedy act, to a Very Noticeable Emphasis on the whole gay and lesbian joke schtick.
Don’t get me wrong: I have no issue with G&L community, and can appreciate a good topical joke, but for an hour? Nothing but the same topic? Since the audience seemed to be 90% G&L, it was actually appropriate that her act was 90% G&L, so more power to her (and her audience). But I was already tired, and grumpy, and not really finding the act that funny on a non-biased basis, and I distinctly remember her last show as Awesome.
Thumbs down, on this one. Sorry!
Aside: I was tired. And grumpy. And still have lots and lots of work to do, prep for moving and driving out to C-U for new job. So: We left “early,” as soon as she ended her main act, when the applause started. Considering that we have to drive across Seattle and try to get on the earliest ferry home as possible, with one hour wait times between ferries, I didn’t think this was that unreasonable, all things considered. But there was a recent Long Snark And Bitch Tirade On Seattle LJ on this topic, which was interesting to read…
